SUMMARY:Woods Walk at Northwestern REC Community Forest
DESCRIPTION:In 2026\, Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative is celebrating 90 years of cooperation!  As part of REC’s 90th Anniversary Celebration on August 1st\, FSF co-founder and forester Troy Firth will lead walking tours of the Northwestern REC Community Forest\, a property conserved in partnership between FSF and REC in 2024 through the USDA Community Forest Program. \n\n\n\nThe walking tours will follow a loop trail through the forest adjacent to REC’s headquarters. Troy will discuss the property’s history and FSF’s use of sustainable forestry practices to improve the forest’s health and resilience. The walk will traverse uneven terrain\, while keeping a relaxed pace. Waterproof footwear is recommended. \n\n\n\nREC’s 90th Anniversary Celebration takes place from 11am to 3pm. Tours of the community forest will depart at 11:30am and 1:30pm from REC’s headquarters. \n\n\n\nAdditional details about the REC 90th Anniversary Celebration\, including live music\, face painting\, food vendors\, safety demonstrations\, and truck and garage tours\, is available on the Northwestern REC website at www.northwesternrec.com/90years

SUMMARY:Partner Event - Create for Change Nonprofit Art Exhibition & Auction
DESCRIPTION:FSF is excited to have been selected by Steve Campbell\, a local Corry\, PA artist\, to participate in the Create for Change Nonprofit Art Exhibition and Auction\, hosted by the Corry Artists’ Guild. The two-day event brings together artists\, nonprofit organizations\, and community members to raise awareness\, build connections\, and support meaningful causes. \n\n\n\nSteve will create an original work of art inspired by and themed around FSF’s mission.  The piece\, along with those by other talented local artists and their selected Corry-area nonprofits\, will be featured in the exhibition and auction.  A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit FSF\, and other participating nonprofits. \n\n\n\nBoth days of the event will take place at the Mead Park Amphitheatre & Glen Mead Building\, 945 Mead Ave\, Corry\, PA. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, August 7th\, 4-6pm – Exhibition Preview \n\n\n\nEnjoy live music while getting a first look at the artwork. \n\n\n\nSaturday\, August 8th\, 11am – 3pm – Art Exhibition & Auction Fundraiser \n\n\n\nPreview the exhibit from 11am to 1pm\, with the live auction beginning at 1pm.

DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, the Foundation for Sustainable Forests introduced the Jim Finley Stewardship Day as an annual event to honor the memory of distinguished forest educator and visionary conservationist James C. Finley. Each year\, we come together at an FSF-conserved property for a project that is tied to the long-term health and resilience of the forest. \n\n\n\nThis year’s work will take place at FSF’s Robert Crawford Memorial Forest near Edinboro\, PA. With your help\, we will tend to tree tubes\, clean up an old farm building site\, install property signs\, and more. \n\n\n\nFSF will supply the necessary tools and supplies to get the job done\, but you are also encouraged to bring your own tools\, work gloves\, etc.  Dress for the weather\, but also for brambles\, muddy terrain\, etc. \n\n\n\nLunch\, beverages\, and snacks will be provided. The book explores the histories of Pennsylvania’s river and coal regions and traces the environmental movements and crises that have led to public policy changes over the course of more than a century. The keynote presentation will focus on how Pennsylvanians have shaped and been shaped by their working landscapes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Allen Dieterich-Ward is an environmental and urban historian with a focus on political ecology and community development. He is a Professor of History and Director of The Graduate School at Shippensburg University.  His first book\, Beyond Rust: Metropolitan Pittsburgh and the Fate of Industrial America won the Arline Custer Memorial Award for Best Book on MidAtlantic History. His second book\, Cradle of Conservation: An Environmental History of Pennsylvania is now available from Temple University Press. He is the past president of the Pennsylvania Historical Association\, former editor of the Pennsylvania History Series\, and a board member of PA Humanities. SUMMARY:Loving the Land Through Working Forests - Forestry Walk
DESCRIPTION:Robert Crawford Memorial Forest\, near Edinboro\, PA \n\n\n\n\n\nThis year’s Loving the Land Through Working Forests event will scale back from its usual conference format and is offering a free guided walk at a 282-acre forest acquired by FSF earlier this year. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, September 19th\, FSF will host a forestry walk at our newly conserved Robert Crawford Memorial Forest near Edinboro in Erie County\, PA. Forester Guy Dunkle will lead us through a recent timber harvest\, providing information about tree selection\, forest pests\, and forest changes over time. We’ll also discuss the relationship between historical land use / past timber harvests and the conditions we see today. \n\n\n\nThe walk will include uneven terrain and mud; please dress accordingly.
