SUMMARY:A Walk in Penn's Woods
DESCRIPTION:As part of the statewide Walk in Penn’s Woods offerings\, FSF invites you to take a walk with us at FSF’s new Sparta Sportsmen’s Community Forest in Spartansburg\, PA. \n\n\n\nSparta Sportsmen’s Community Forest features an exceptional stand of sugar maple that has served as a sugar bush for several decades. Over a quarter mile of headwater tributaries flow through the property before joining nearby Patrick Run in the East Branch Oil Creek watershed. \n\n\n\nIn 2024\, the forest was purchased from Sparta Sportsmen’s Club\, which had owned the property since the early 1960s. The project was made possible by the PA DCNR Community Conservation Partnership Program via the Keystone Fund\, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy\, Commissioners of Crawford County\, Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds\, Crawford Heritage Community Foundation\, and Crawford County Sportsmen’s Council. Troy Firth\, FSF Founder and President\, donated additional forestland in Crawford and Venango Counties for conservation purposes in support of this project. \n\n\n\nThe property features an access drive that that we will walk as an approx. one mile loop trail. The walk will be on relatively flat\, but occasionally uneven\, terrain. Please dress for the weather\, brambles\, and possibly soggy ground. Blaze orange clothing is recommended as the property is open to the public for hunting. Bring a water bottle if you can\, but water bottles and snacks will be provided\, too. \n\n\n\nWe will meet at the driveway off of Old Route 77. See the Google Maps link below for directions. \n\n\n\nFor any questions\, please contact Annie Maloney at 814-694-5830 or info@foundationforsustainableforests.org

SUMMARY:Hybrid Event - Presentation at Presque Isle Audubon Society
DESCRIPTION:Presque Isle Audubon Society will host a presentation on Friday\, November 21st with Dr. Steve Latta of the National Aviary and Dr. Annie Maloney of Foundation for Sustainable Forests. The presentation\, Fostering Forest Bird Habitat and Ecosystem Resilience through Management\, will share findings and insights from the 4-year study in which their organizations partnered to explore the impact of uneven-aged forest management on two groups of birds of conservation concern — early successional species and species requiring interior forest habitats. \n\n\n\nThis is a hybrid event held both in-person at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center in Erie\, PA and virtually via Zoom. Event details and instructions for accessing the Zoom link can be found on Presque Isle Audubon Society’s website at https://www.presqueisleaudubon.org/blog/upcoming-programs

SUMMARY:Save the Date: Loving the Land Through Working Forests - Woods Walk
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 19\, 2026 \n\n\n\nThis year’s Loving the Land Through Working Forests program will feature a free guided woods walk\, in lieu of a full conference agenda. \n\n\n\nIn prior years\, woods walk sessions at the Loving the Land conference have always drawn a crowd and attendees consistently shared feedback that walking the woods with an FSF forester was the highlight of their conference experience. With this in mind\, the 2026 Loving the Land Through Working Forests event will scale back from its usual conference format\, instead focusing on a guided woods walk led by FSF. \n\n\n\nEvent details will be announced soon! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInterested in sponsoring the Loving the Land Through Working Forests woods walk? Contact Bennett Gould at bgould@forestsandpeople.org for details.
