New urban forest partnership with City of Erie

The Foundation for Sustainable Forests is pleased to announce a new partnership with the City of Erie to develop a sustainable management plan for Erie's wooded parks.  The City of Erie hosts approximately 150 acres of urban forests within its parks.  Sarah Galloway, city Arborist and Sustainability Coordinator, is eager to see a management plan in place to ensure the long term health and vigor of Erie's forests.

Wendell Berry Film Screening Provides Food for Thought

On Friday, February 23rd the Foundation for Sustainable Forests, in partnership with the French Creek Valley Conservancy and Allegheny College, hosted a screening of the new Wendell Berry documentary film "Look & See, A Portrait of Wendell Berry".   The film, which is largely agricultural in focus, has much to say about the having of a land ethic, and the concept of sustainable working lands- hugely relevant topics for our region.   A robust crowd of almost 100 people showed up for the viewing, and stayed afterwards to discuss the film over refreshments.    Many thanks to those who came

Foundation Receives $725,000 DCNR Grant to Fund 292-acre Open Space Acquisition


The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) Bureau of Conservation & Recreation has awarded the Foundation for Sustainable Forests $725,000 to protect open space in Warren County as part of the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, also referred to as C2P2.

Forest donated as a shared gift with Allegheny College

A 17-acre forest east of Conneautville in Spring Township, Crawford County, has been conserved in perpetuity via a donation to the Foundation for Sustainable Forests in partnership with Allegheny College.
