Join FSF for a relaxing evening watching the lightning bugs and the stars come out under the dark sky at Blooming Valley Forest. A meadow along the forest’s edge near the Stoltz Road entrance will provide an open, low-light view above. Richard Gosnell, Penn State Behrend astronomy lecturer and a Kripalu trained Mindful Outdoor Guide, will explain some basics of observing wildlife at twilight and viewing the stars of the night sky. The group will watch stars emerge in the darkening sky and listen to the patterns of the forest at dusk. At the end of the hour, Professor Gosnell will explain how to best view the Perseid meteor shower. A telescope will be available for viewing stars.
The event is free and open to the public. No RSVP needed. All ages and levels of astronomy experience are welcome. Children should be accompanied by an adult. No pets, please. Please dress for the weather and bring a lawn chair.
In the event of cloudy or inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.
