4/19//2018 Spring Wildflower Walk

Join the FSF and DCNR Forester Cecile Stelter on a Sunday afternoon for a Spring stroll in the woods! 

Sunday, April 29th from 1pm-4pm

We will meet at the Townville tract of State Forest Land, located on Strawbridge Rd east of Townville, PA (Steuben Township, Crawford County). We will rendezvous at the pavilion.

From Titusville and points east:

From Route 8 just outside of Titusville turn onto Route 408 towards Hydetown. Follow Route 408 for about 6 miles (you’ll pass the left turn for Route 428). When you are about 1 mile from Townville you will make a right onto Strawbridge Road and about half way down the State Forest will be on the left hand side. ( You’ll see the “barber shave style” signs before you come to the parking lot.) Parking is in the designated area and along the road.

From Townville and points west:

5/18/18 Friends of the Foundation Dinner

We had so much fun with our first-ever Dinner last year, we're doing it again! Join the Foundation for Sustainable Forests for an evening with members, supporters, conference presenters, and other friends.   

Gather on the evening of May 18th at Nick's Place in Edinboro for a meal with our forest conservation and working forest community.

5:30pm Social hour, 6:30pm Dinner followed by a Keynote Address

Keynote Speaker: Jason Rutledge is the a conservationist, forester and horse-logger, and co-founder of the Healing Harvest Foundation in Virginia

3/16/2018 Woods & Waters Film Series: Film Shorts

A thoughtful and entertaining selection of environmental film shorts at the Fort Lebeouf Museum in Waterford.

This was the 2nd installment of our 2018 Woods & Waters Film Series, offered in partnership with the French Creek Valley Conservancy. 

Located in the community room at the Fort Lebeouf Musuem in Waterford, PA.

 

2/23/2018  Woods & Waters Film Series: "Look & See: A Portrait of Wendell Berry"

Friday, February 23, 2018 from 7pm-9pm

The event was held at Allegheny College's Quigley Hall Auditorium.

The Foundation for Sustainable Forests, in partnership with the French Creek Valley Conservancy and Allegheny College, presented a film about working lands,conservation and community " as lensed through the works of farmer, writer and activist Wendell Berry".

Monday, October 30th at 7pm, we will host a gathering of woodland owners who wish to learn more about management and conservation options for their land. All are welcome

Gather with the Foundation community on an autumn evening for good food and forest conversations!

Located at the Woodland Lodge in Grand Valley, PA

10/1/17 A Walk in Penn's Woods

Join us for an afternoon stroll in a forest managed for health and habitat, commercial syrup production and timber. We'll talk sap, tree ID, wildlife habitat and more!

Located at the Woodland Lodge in Grand Valley, PA

We will gather at 1pm and conclude by 4pm.

There is no cost for this event. All are welcome!

8/30/17 Dedication of the Bail Family Forest

The Foundation for Sustainable Forests held the dedication of the 17-acre Bail Family Forest on Wednesday, August 30th at 2:30pm.

The Bail Family Forest was donated to the Foundation this summer as a Shared Gift with Allegheny College. As such, in time the net proceeds from timber activities on the forest will be shared with the college in perpetuity. It will also serve as a demonstration and teaching forest for Allegheny College students and the general public..The dedication will be attended by representatives from the Foundation for Sustainable Forests, Allegheny College, and the Bail Family.

8/8/17 Erie Gives Day

Thank you for your support the Foundation for Sustainable Forests on Erie Gives Day!

To participate, visit ErieGives.org on Tuesday, April 8th, between 8am and 8pm

All contributions received a matching donation from the Erie Community Foundation, helping your contribution to go even further towards woodland conservation and sustainable forestry outreach.  

This is an important day of giving for northwestern Pennsylvania, and we thank you for keeping the Foundation for Sustainable Forests in mind!

6/9-10/17 Working in Your Woods - A Workshop

The FSF's Annie Socci co-presented with the USDA-Forest Service's Susan Stout and Scott Stoleson at this event.

5/19/17 Sustainable Forestry Hike with Marshall Pecore, Manager of Menominee Forest, Wisconsin

Join us on May 19th, 12:30-4:30pm at FSF's Blooming Valley Forest near 16759 Price Rd. Blooming Valley, PA as we all share ideas and perspectives walking through a forest featuring various aged group selections and a variety of tree species and cohorts. The Blooming Valley Forest has been managed by FSF foresters since 1985 using a system of low intensity, high frequency thinnings and group openings.

This event was offered at no cost and qualified for 4.0 CFE SAF credits.

5/19/17 Friends of the Foundation Dinner

The Foundation for Sustainable Forest's held it's first ever dinner for members, supporters, colleagues in conservation and stewardship, and friends.   

Attendees gathered on the evening of May 19th at The Country Club in Meadville for a meal with our forest conservation and working forest community.

5:30pm Social hour, 6:30pm Dinner followed by a Keynote Address and Recognitions

Keynote Speaker: James Finley, PhD is the Ibberson Chair of Forest Resources at Pennsylvania State University and Director of the Center for Private Forests
