This afternoon hike is a celebration of springtime in the forest, held in loving memory of Foundation for Sustainable Forests co-founder Lynn Firth.
This year’s walk will take place in the forests surrounding the Villa Maria Community Center in Pulaski, PA. Since the early 1860s, the Sisters of the Humility of Mary have cared for these forests, containing abundant wildlife, vernal pools, wetlands, and wildflowers. We will use mostly flat trails, but may venture off-trail to uneven and/or muddy terrain, while keeping a relaxed pace. Light refreshments will be provided. Restroom facilities will be available.
Directions: The Villa Maria Community Center is located at 288 Villa Dr., Pulaski, PA 16143. When you arrive, event signs will direct you along a gravel driveway to a picnic pavilion. We will park vehicles and gather at the pavilion. A Google Maps link to the Community Center is available below, as well as a map of the driveway to the pavilion.
RSVP appreciated. Call (814) 694-5830 or email [email protected] to RSVP.
If you are not able to make it, we are happy to offer an alternative: a virtual walk through the Trolley Line Trail at the Erie National Wildlife Refuge! This StoryMap, published in 2020, features a series of videos to guide you through the flora of a one-mile section of the Trail near Cambridge Springs, PA. You can also use it to brush up on your spring wildflower identification skills!
