The Foundation community is mourning the loss of a man whose influence on private forest management in northwestern PA was lasting and impactful.

This week, the Foundation for Sustainable Forests team was saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of Tom Erdman, a co-founder of the Northwest Pennsylvania Woodland Association, long-time PA DCNR Service Forester in Erie County, and loyal friend and supporter of FSF. Many of us share fond memories of Tom, who was always willing to offer advice or insights to further FSF’s mission. In Erie County, we rarely interact with a forest landowner whose path towards thoughtful management of their lands didn’t start with Tom. He will be missed, but his legacy will surely live on, much like the forests that he stewarded.

“His knowledge of forestry was unmatched, and he spent countless hours walking in the woods helping landowners manage their forests.”
